Transportation

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Today, I collected the three Lyddie Journals from the past week. The late penalty is 10% PER DAY PER JOURNAL!!! That will add up fast, so stay on top of it.

Industrialization Unit Syllabus–Click here if you need the questions.

Today in class we looked at different types of 19th century transportation, which we will finish tomorrow. Your only homework is Lyddie and another response. Oh, and don’t forget that there is an open-note quiz on Friday.

DO NOW’s

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Our main accomplishments over the past two days is the completion of two “Do Now’s”, one on the role of the press during wartime and one on the Treaty of Versailles.

The Projects you should be doing right now:

1. The Newspaper Project– This project is due on Friday. Be sure to write from a first-person perspective with the goal of informing people back home of the soldier’s experience.

2. Long-term essay–This combined English/History project has you responding to your book. Its due date is a bit loose right now, but you should do it when the information is fresh on your mind. G’Luck!

3. Write Your Rep–Still haven’t set a due date here, but think about what you want to write about. If you want to just complete it now because there is somethign you are angry about, then go for it. There will be more info on this in the coming week.

New post…finally.

Hey everyone,

There is a new post. Unfortunately, I cannot provide the economics packet online, but I can provide you with the Industrialization Unit Syllabus. This has the homeworks for the month and all of the journal responses on here.

Reminder: The first three journal responses will be collected TOMORROW! AS IN WEDNESDAY!

It’s back.

Hey guys,

Here is a flood of worksheets you may have needed:

World War I Syllabus
Shell Shock
Dulce et Decorum Est
AQOTWF top sheet
The Newspaper Project
English/History Project

Phew…that’s a lot of junk. Ok, hope that helps, sorry for it to be so delayed.

Problems…

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Sorry, I have been having a plethora of computer problems recently, and therefore I have not been able to post many documents here. However, this is a good time to remind you not to rely solely on MrGreiner.com for your homework.

Wednesday and Thursday

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Essay is due on FRIDAY, not tomorrow. I’ll be available to answer questions on Thursday after school, but not at lunch since I (and hopefully, you) will be at student council.

Any quick questions, leave them here, and I will do my best.

Wednesday

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Hey 7th grade,

Today, 7G are the lucky ones…no homework.

7S, you are ahead of them, and you need to do the Broadside. Remember to include several reasons why people should vote for your side. Use the notes we had and be creative! You can also attack the other side in your broadside if you want.

Good luck!

Out for the day.

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Hey gang,

Sorry, got ill, had to go home. I am sure you were fine, since there was a movie. You will need to do the movie homework paragraph for tomorrow, which is about how Thomas Jefferson tried to appeal to the people. (Hint: People hate taxes, love free land, and like to think that their leaders are just like them)…

We’ll start making the broadsides and doing debate prep tomorrow.

Very ill

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Hey 8th graders,

I’ll be in tomorrow, and you can just lodge all your complaints about the essay then. One thing I can tell you is that I have been clear from the beginning that this was to be a descriptive essay. I just want you to tell me what happened at the event. You arguing that “America intervened because ____________, which caused ________________” IS AN ARGUMENT. Maybe it does not feel like an argument because you are not calling Rockefellar a plague on America, but its an argument nonetheless. You are proving CAUSE and EFFECT. Your paragraphs will support that argument with relevant details.

However, for tonight, there is no homework due. I know, I know, you must be upset…inconsolable really. Don’t fret…you’ll have homework tomorrow.

Cotton Gin

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Hey 7th graders,

sorry for not including a syllabus this unit. There is so much stuff going on, that I am unable to. For tonight, there is no homework unless you are in 7G and did not finish the Cotton Gin Do Now.

See you tomorrow.

Essays

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Hey gang,

Today, we started some research on your Intervention Research paper. Since this requires us to use library sources, AND since those library sources are in my room, this limits your ability to do it at home.

Therefore, this will be an in school thing. Even more difficult, we have about four other things going on that are outside our control. For example, tomorrow Ms. Browder will be coming in to talk to you guys about the illustrator Christopher Bing AND we will go see Mr. McAneny talk about his Japan trip. Then on Thursday there is out MAP QUIZ, then on Friday there is the play…then a three day weekend…and also on Friday there is Christopher Bing…OY!

So much stuff. We’ll play it by ear. I appreciate your patience.

Weekend!

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

Hey 8th graders,

Your homework is to answer the questions on the Yellow Fever handout. And in case you didn’t do Thursday nights homework, here is the Yellow Journalism worksheet.

Next week, we’ll start the research essays. YES!

test

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

Hope you all enjoyed the test.

No homework for the weekend.

Noisy heater.

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Man oh man, that heater was loud. Thanks for being such a nice class and moving around with me, even if the technology was faulty at times.

We discussed what America’s role in the world SHOULD be, and very few of you mentioned that it would be a good idea to isolate ourselves. You all thought that America should behave in the world, at minimum to serve its own interests, at maximum to fix problems and try to ensure peace (without jumping into the middle of fights).

We then looked at a powerpoint outlining America’s development as a world power. You were SUPPOSED to get homework on the Monroe Doctrine, but that fell through wiht the heater problems, so now there is no homework.

Study for TEST.

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Today, I mentioned that the homework was to study for the test. Then you celebrated that there was no homework.

WRONG ANSWER.

You have a test on Friday. It is not easy. It is, in fact, hard. Study for it.

Check yesterdays post for a study guide.

Welcome back…

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

TEST ON FRIDAY! TEST ON FRIDAY!

Good thing you have so many resources to use…

1. READ OVER THE SEPARATION OF POWERS PACKET and your BILL OF RIGHTS NOTES!
2. Use the study guide!
3. Go over your mini-quizzes…
4. Make sure you memorized all the answers from the warm-up activities this week, including the Warm-up from today

You should be a Constitution MACHINE by this time on Friday.

As for tonight, your homework is the Amendment activity. I know, I know, three whole questions, how could I? Try to keep it realistic, but fix any flaw you think the Constitution might have. Some examples might be changing how the President is elected, giving away or taking away rights, limiting spending or even changing what branch of government has what power…Be sure to describe WHY you chose this and WHY it would or would not pass.

Welcome back 8th graders

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

Hey guys,

Welcome back to school. I know you are all excited to be back…i could see it on your alert, smiling faces… (and yes, that was sarcasm).

Anyway, we are beginning our unit on America’s role in the world before WWI. This unit will have us cover everything from acquiring Hawaii to fighting insurrection in the Philippines. We started off with a map, and the terms are listed below.

You can get an additional map here and here.

We then looked at what it means for America to be the most powerful nation in the world (although clearly not omnipotent) and started the Do Now “What should America do with its power?”. We will go over that tomorrow.

Map quiz on Friday.
